With the latest ViewMetrics update, you can now create templates in Google Slides and Google sheets, and use them directly within the ViewMetrics Web Application.

To create templates in ViewMetrics, you first need to get a few things installed.

Make sure you've installed our Google Workspace add-on
Next you'll want to make sure you've connected your Google Drive account to ViewMetrics as a destination. This allows you to create reports from your template and save them directly in your Google Drive account. To set up your destinations, you can follow the help article here.

Starting from scratch

If you have a Google Slides template (without ViewMetrics data) already designed, or want to design one as you add data, then starting from scratch is for you.

First you'll want to create a new Google Slide presentation, and make at least one edit in the document.

Next, you will want to open the ViewMetrics add-on. From here you'll want to click the Quick Insert button (it's the easiest way to insert ViewMetrics variables).

If you want to be able to create reports and templates with ViewMetrics, you need to first connect a destination. In ViewMetrics, a destination is a folder you select from your Google Drive account. To be able to connect a destination to ViewMetrics, you need to first connect your Google Drive account.

To connect your Google Drive account to ViewMetrics, you'll need to navigate to the destinations tab, where you'll see an option to sign in with your Google account.

You will be asked to give us permission to access your Google Drive account, and permission to create and modify Google Slide presentations on your behalf.

After allowing permissions you will be taken back to ViewMetrics, where you'll see My Drive as the first conn

ViewMetrics makes it easy to keep track of all your marketing and sales data. With the ViewMetrics platform, you can see how all of your accounts are performing in our web dashboards, or directly inside your Google Workspace account.

This guide will walk you through connecting your first data source and accessing the data inside ViewMetrics and Google Workspace.

The first thing you need to do after creating an account on ViewMetrics is to connect a data source. A data source is just another name for the marketing/sales account you want to pull access from. We call these accounts data sources because they are the sources of the data we show in ViewMetrics.

To connect a data source, you will need to navigate to the data source tab and select the connect a data source button. (Note: if you are entering this flow from the Google add-on, you will be automatically taken to the next page).

That will take you to a page where you can select the type of data source you want to connect:

Connecting your Google Drive account

To connect your Google Drive account to ViewMetrics, you'll need to navigate to the destinations tab, where you'll see an option to sign in with your Google account.

You will be asked to give us permission to access your Google Drive account, and permission to create and modify Google Slide presentations on your behalf.

After allowing permissions you will be taken back to ViewMetrics, where you'll see My Drive as the first connected destination. This is your Google Drive root directory.

If you want to connect other folders, you can click the Add Destination button at the top right. This will open up a folder picker for you to select a folder to add to ViewMetrics.

Sometimes your report will fail to generate. While we try to cover as many edge cases as possible, some might still happen that cause the report generation process to fail.

Here are some of the common reasons why your report might have failed:

Lost access to the data source

Problem: Sometimes, we lose access to your data source due to expired tokens or revoked permissions. If you try creating a report with one of these sources, it's likely the report will fail.

How to troubleshoot: Refresh the page, go to the analytics tab and try viewing the data on the dashboard. If you see the data load, try changing the time range (this ensures the data isn't cached). If new data loads in without error messages, then you know the issue isn't with your data source.

How to fix: If the issue is with your data source, the easiest way to resolve it is to disconnect and reconnect the source to ViewMetrics. This can be done by going to the data sources sub-menu in the connections menu, click the 3-dot menu to the right of the data source you want to disconnect, select the disconnect option from the menu that pops up. Next, you will need to go through the connection flow again.
