# Can't find the Google add-on
> Locate the ViewMetrics add-on inside Google Slides and Sheets, and what to do when it does not appear in the Extensions menu.
Google Workspace add-ons work a little differently compared to Google Chrome Extensions, and Google Editor add-ons, so if this is your first workspace add-on, it might not be clear where to find ViewMetrics after it’s been installed.
Thankfully, Google makes it really easy to find ViewMetrics after you’ve installed it to your account. When installed, Google Workspace add-ons are added on the right sidebar of your Google UI, so whether you’re in Slides, Sheets, Drive, Docs, or event Google Calendar, you’ll be able to see and use the ViewMetrics add-on.

# Add-on error 400 — Bad Request
> What triggers a 400 Bad Request error in the ViewMetrics Google add-on, what it usually means about your document, and the steps that clear it.
Sometimes other extensions you have running in Chrome can cause our add-on not to install. This is a Google issue and not an issue with our add-on.
You can follow this thread:
# Unable to update non-Google documents
> ViewMetrics can only refresh native Google Slides and Sheets. Here is what to do with uploaded PowerPoint or Excel files.
The ViewMetrics add-on is used to insert and refresh data inside Google Documents. This includes Google Slides, Google Sheets, and Google Docs.
If you open a non-Google document inside a Google Editor (e.g a PPTX file in Google Slides, or an XLSX spreadsheet in Sheets), you will still be able to open the ViewMetrics add-on and view all your data, but you will not be able to insert new data from the ViewMetrics add-on.
This is a limitation set in place by the Google add-on team, and is not something we’re able to support at this time through ViewMetrics.
If you want to be able to add data to a non-Google document, we recommend converting the document to a Google Document (Slides, Sheets, Docs) and then re-open the ViewMetrics add-on.
# Connect ViewMetrics to Claude or ChatGPT
> Connect ViewMetrics to Claude or ChatGPT and ask about your marketing data in plain language. How to set it up, what is shared, and how to disconnect.
You can connect ViewMetrics to an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT, then ask questions about your marketing data in plain language. The assistant reads your reporting data through the ViewMetrics connector, which uses the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard that most AI assistants support.
The connection is **read-only**. An assistant can read the reporting data you choose to share. It cannot change anything in your ViewMetrics account, and it never sees your password or billing details.
## What you need
[Section titled “What you need”](#what-you-need)
* A ViewMetrics account. If you have not connected any data yet, you can share the **demo business**, which contains sample data.
* An AI assistant that supports custom connectors, such as Claude or ChatGPT. Whether custom connectors are available depends on your plan with that assistant.
## Connect your assistant
[Section titled “Connect your assistant”](#connect-your-assistant)
ViewMetrics is not listed in the Claude or ChatGPT app directories yet, so searching for it there will not find it. You connect it as a custom connector instead, using this address:
```plaintext
https://mcp.viewmetrics.com/mcp
```
1. In your assistant, open the connector settings and choose to add a custom connector. In Claude this is under **Customize → Connectors**: click **+**, then **Add custom connector**. In ChatGPT, open **Settings → Apps**, turn on **Developer mode** under **Advanced settings**, then create a new app. On a team or workspace plan, only an owner or admin may be able to add one. These menu names change from time to time, so look for “connectors” or “apps” if yours differ.
2. Enter **ViewMetrics** as the name and paste the connector address above as the URL.
3. Your assistant sends you to ViewMetrics. Sign in with your usual ViewMetrics login.
4. On the approval screen, select the businesses and data sources the assistant may read. You can include the demo business if you want to try things out with sample data.
5. Click the **Authorize** button, whose label also shows how many data sources you selected. You are returned to your assistant, and the connection is ready.
Only the businesses and data sources you selected are shared.
## What you can ask
[Section titled “What you can ask”](#what-you-can-ask)
* **“What accounts do I have connected?”** lists the data sources you shared.
* **“How did my Instagram perform last month?”** returns metrics and trends for a channel and date range.
* **“Compare sessions across all my channels for the last 30 days.”** compares channels, by day or by week.
* **“Give me an overall performance summary for this month.”** rolls up a whole workspace.
* **“What was my top content this quarter?”** ranks videos, posts, campaigns and pages.
* **“Write a client-ready summary of last month’s performance.”** drafts prose from your real numbers.
Some assistants show the results as interactive charts. The exact values are always included in the text of the answer as well.
## Manage or disconnect a connection
[Section titled “Manage or disconnect a connection”](#manage-or-disconnect-a-connection)
In ViewMetrics, open **Settings → Connected apps**. The page lists every assistant connected to your business, what each one can read, and when it was last used.
* To remove your own connection, click **Disconnect** on that app.
Disconnecting takes effect straight away. The assistant can no longer renew its access, and any access it already holds expires within one hour.
You can also remove ViewMetrics from the connector settings inside your assistant.
## Troubleshooting
[Section titled “Troubleshooting”](#troubleshooting)
### The assistant says a data source needs to be reconnected
[Section titled “The assistant says a data source needs to be reconnected”](#the-assistant-says-a-data-source-needs-to-be-reconnected)
The data source’s own connection, for example to Google or Instagram, has lapsed. Reconnect it under **Connections → Data Sources** in ViewMetrics, then ask again. See [How to connect a data source](/data-sources/how-to-connect-a-data-source/).
### A data source is missing in the assistant
[Section titled “A data source is missing in the assistant”](#a-data-source-is-missing-in-the-assistant)
It was not selected on the approval screen. If you are an owner or admin, open **Settings → Connected apps**, click **Change what it can see** on the app and select the data source. Otherwise, disconnect the app, then connect again and select the data source.
### The assistant says connectors are disabled
[Section titled “The assistant says connectors are disabled”](#the-assistant-says-connectors-are-disabled)
An owner or admin has turned AI connectors off for that business. Ask them to switch **Let apps connect to this business** back on from the **Account** settings page.
### Answers contain sample data
[Section titled “Answers contain sample data”](#answers-contain-sample-data)
Anything from the demo business is labelled as generated sample data. It is never mixed into the totals for your real businesses. To stop seeing it, reconnect without selecting the demo business.
## Privacy
[Section titled “Privacy”](#privacy)
ViewMetrics does not hand your provider logins, such as your Google or Meta connections, to the assistant. It only returns the reporting data the assistant asks for. Our [privacy policy](https://viewmetrics.com/privacy-policy) explains how ViewMetrics handles your data.
# Connecting destinations
> A destination is the Google Drive folder ViewMetrics saves reports into. Here is how to connect your Drive account and add folders as destinations.
If you want to be able to create reports and templates with ViewMetrics, you need to first connect a destination. In ViewMetrics, a destination is a folder you select from your Google Drive account. To be able to connect a destination to ViewMetrics, you need to first connect your Google Drive account.
## Connecting your Google Drive account
[Section titled “Connecting your Google Drive account”](#connecting-your-google-drive-account)

To connect your Google Drive account to ViewMetrics, you’ll need to navigate to the [destinations tab](https://app.viewmetrics.com/connections/destinations), where you’ll see an option to sign in with your Google account.

You will be asked to give us permission to access your Google Drive account, and permission to create and modify Google Slide presentations on your behalf.

After allowing permissions you will be taken back to ViewMetrics, where you’ll see **My Drive** as the first connected destination. This is your Google Drive root directory.
If you want to connect other folders, you can click the **Add Destination** button at the top right. This will open up a folder picker for you to select a folder to add to ViewMetrics.
Now that you’ve connected a destination, you’re now ready to [create a report](/reports/creating-reports/).
# Connecting social media pages
> Connect Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and other social pages to ViewMetrics so their metrics appear in your dashboards and reports.
With ViewMetrics, you’re able to access and view your social media data across our dashboards and our Google Workspace add-on. This allows you to track the performance of your social media campaigns, without having to log in to each platform.
You can easily connect your social media account to ViewMetrics by going through our data source connection flow (check out our [setup guide](/getting-started/) for more details).
There are some limitations you should be aware of when connecting different social media accounts:
**Facebook**: Currently we only support analytics from Facebook Pages. You will not be able to use ViewMetrics to see the performance of your personal social media posts.
**Instagram:** To connect your Instagram account to ViewMetrics, you need to first connect it to a Facebook Page, which will allow you to view your page analytics in third-party tools. You can learn more about this requirement, and how to accomplish this, [here](/data-sources/connecting-your-instagram-account/).
**LinkedIn**: Currently we do not support analytics for your personal LinkedIn account. LinkedIn does not make this data available to third-party platforms like ViewMetrics, so the only way to capture this data is to manually capture the data and [upload it as a CSV](/data-sources/upload-data-as-a-csv/).
# Connecting your Instagram account
> Connect an Instagram business or creator account to ViewMetrics, including the Facebook Page link Instagram requires before data can be read.
To connect your Instagram account to ViewMetrics, you need to first connect your Instagram account to a Facebook Business Page.
## Why you must do this
[Section titled “Why you must do this”](#why-you-must-do-this)
Facebook has started phasing out direct “log in with Instagram” experiences. Unfortunately, this means you have to connect your Instagram account to a Facebook page to allow third-party tools (like us) to have access to all the important data you want to see.
## How to link Instagram to Facebook
[Section titled “How to link Instagram to Facebook”](#how-to-link-instagram-to-facebook)
1. On Facebook, go to your Page and click **Page Settings** in the bottom left.
2. Click **Instagram** in the left column.
3. Click **Connect Account**.
4. Enter your username and password and click Log In.
5. If you do not have a business account, you will be prompted to convert your personal account.
And that’s it! Once your Instagram page is connected to your Facebook page you can now connect your Facebook page to ViewMetrics Marketing, and your Instagram page will automatically be pulled into ViewMetrics.
Here’s a [link](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/898752960195806) on Facebook’s site that walks through the process of connecting your Instagram Account to your Facebook page.
Don’t have a Facebook page? Here’s a [great guide](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/473994396650734) on getting one set up.

# What is a workspace?
> A workspace is where your ViewMetrics data sources, reports and team live. Here is what a workspace contains and when you need more than one.
With ViewMetrics, if you’re on the Pro plan or Team plan, you can create workspaces to manage your different clients.
## ***“What’s a workspace?”***
[Section titled ““What’s a workspace?””](#whats-a-workspace)
Some people call them “client profiles” “sub-accounts” or “multiple profiles”, we simply refer to them as workspaces. A workspace in ViewMetrics is a grouping of data sources that are associated with each other.
For example, if you run a marketing agency, you might create a different workspace for each of your clients. That way when you’re looking at dashboards or viewing data in our Google add-on, you can easily switch between different client views.
To see your list of workspaces, you can click the icon at the top of the left sidebar to open the workspace menu (note: your UI might look different based on your screen size - reach out to us if you get stuck)
The second menu should show a list of workspaces (likely only 1 if this is your first time doing this) and the option to search at the top.
To add a new workspace, you need to open the workspace menu and click the **Add workspace** button at the bottom.

Clicking the button should open a modal:

Enter the name you want to give your workspace and confirm by clicking **Add workspace**
You now have another workspace! 🎉 To navigate between them simply click the workspace icon at the top left of the navigation menu.
At some point you might want to change the workspace logo, or change the name of the workspace. This is all done from the settings page.
*Navigate to the settings section and click “Workspace”*

When viewing the workspace settings page, you have the option to change the name of the workspace, and add/change the logo for your workspace.
## *What is the logo used for?*
[Section titled “What is the logo used for?”](#what-is-the-logo-used-for)
The name and logo are used to help you distinguish between your various workspaces. If you’re, for example, using our workspace feature to manage multiple brands, you could use the logo of each brand as the logo for the workspace, making it very clear which workspace belongs to which brand.
# Creating reports
> Build a ViewMetrics report from a template, choose its data sources and date range, and save it to a Google Drive destination.
Our reporting platform is the coolest thing about ViewMetrics. To get started creating reports, there are a few things you’ll want to make sure you take care of first.
1. If you haven’t yet, be sure to install our [Google Workspace add-on](https://workspace.google.com/marketplace/app/sparrow/884437570161?utm_source=sparrow-support)
2. You will need to [connect your Google Drive as a destination](/data-sources/connecting-destinations/) before you can create any reports
Once you’ve taken care of those first two steps, you’ll be ready to create your first report.
## Select a template
[Section titled “Select a template”](#select-a-template)

The first thing you’ll need to do is select a template to use. We’ve created a couple of free templates you can use, but you can always [create your own template](/templates/) with our add-on. All publicly available templates can be found on the [templates page](https://app.viewmetrics.com/reports/templates/list) within the ViewMetrics web app. When you click on the template you’ll be able to see a live preview of the template.

Once you’ve selected a template, you’ll have the option to add the required data sources and select the time range for the data pulled.
For example, if you selected an Instagram template, then you would need to select an Instagram source from your active workspace, and then the date range you want to pull data for (Last 28 days, Last month, etc.).

On the next screen, you’ll need to select which format you want your report to be exported to, and where you want the final report saved.
If you select **Slides** as your export type, you will have the option to modify the template and view your inserted sources after it’s been created, so we definitely recommend going with that. Otherwise, you can export the template as PDF or PPTX to ensure you have the report in the format you need.
The destination drop-down is the list of folders you’ve connected to ViewMetrics. You’ll need to select a destination so we know where to save your created report.

**And that’s it!** Depending on how big the template is, it can sometimes take up to 20 seconds for the report to generate.
**Pro tip:** Found a template you like but it’s not exactly what you want? If you generate a report from the template, you’ll be able to edit the new document via our add-on and save it as a new template in ViewMetrics. 🤓
# Filter dashboard data
> Narrow your ViewMetrics dashboard by date range, data source or channel so you only see the metrics you are reporting on.

For Ads, Email, and Website data sources, you have the ability to filter the dashboard views by campaigns and website properties. This allows you to look at data at a more granular level.
## Hide all inactive
[Section titled “Hide all inactive”](#hide-all-inactive)
* The \*\*hide all inactive \*\*toggle will hide all ad campaigns that are not currently running. This is a great way to filter out old ad campaigns and allows you to focus your time filtering active campaigns/adsets/ads.
## Filter campaigns by text
[Section titled “Filter campaigns by text”](#filter-campaigns-by-text)

* The Filter campaigns by text input field will update your filter list by only including campaigns that contain a string-match with the word you input into the field.
* For example, if you only want to see campaigns that have the word March in them, you would input March into the textbox. This will update your filter up above to only show you campaigns that have the word March in them.
## Reset to default
[Section titled “Reset to default”](#reset-to-default)

* When you click the Reset to default button, all active filters will be removed and your dashboard will go back to looking at all your account data for all your campaigns.
# Modifying a template after it is created
> Change an existing ViewMetrics template without breaking reports that already use it, and understand which edits affect past documents.
As of right now, once you’ve saved a document to ViewMetrics as a template, you won’t be able to add or remove placeholders from the document. If you want to modify the template, you will need to first delete it (from ViewMetrics, not the Google document), then re-create it.
## Delete ViewMetrics Template
[Section titled “Delete ViewMetrics Template”](#delete-viewmetrics-template)
* With the ViewMetrics add-on open in the template you’d like to change, click “**Manage Template**”
* Next Click **Delete Template** and confirm.

Your template is now deleted in ViewMetrics.
After you refresh the add-on, you will be able to add and remove metrics just as you were previously able to do. Once you’re ready to save it as a template again, you can click the **Save as Template** button to create a new ViewMetrics template.
# "Content can't be loaded"
> What the "content can't be loaded" message in ViewMetrics means, and the connection and permission checks that resolve it.
## The Issue
[Section titled “The Issue”](#the-issue)
When trying to use ViewMetrics inside Google Slides, the add-on will continue to load, until eventually a “Content can’t be loaded” error message is shown.

## Solution
[Section titled “Solution”](#solution)
Unfortunately, this is due to an issue with Google’s add-on platform, and impacts all Google Slides add-ons that leverage the same Workspaces interface as ViewMetrics.
Some users have reported the add-on will work if you:
1. Open the add-on in a slide presentation that has less than 4 slides
2. Refrain from adding new slides to the presentation
If you have already seen the error message, you might have to [clear your cache](https://www.pcmag.com/how-to/how-to-clear-your-cache-on-any-browser) before the above workarounds will work.
If you want to see this issue fixed quickly, please lend your support on Google’s Bug Tracker by **starring** the issue on the link below.
# Missing demographic data
> Demographic breakdowns need a minimum audience size and specific permissions. Here is why they are missing and what to check.
Demographic data represents the number of people who saw any of your posts at least once, grouped by age and gender. Aggregated demographic data is based on a number of factors, including age and gender information users provide in their Facebook profiles. This number is an estimate.
Generally, you need to have data for 100 or more people before the metrics become available to you as the page owner or ViewMetrics as a third-party software provider.
Here’s a breakdown of the requirements for each of our supported platforms:
## Facebook
[Section titled “Facebook”](#facebook)
* Demographic metrics, such as age, gender, and location, are only returned if there is data for 100 or more people.
## Instagram
[Section titled “Instagram”](#instagram)
* Demographic metrics, such as age, gender, and location, are only returned if there is data for 100 or more people.
## Twitter
[Section titled “Twitter”](#twitter)
* It takes us about 24 hours to process Twitter demographic data, so you will need to come back tomorrow to see your data 🤓
## LinkedIn
[Section titled “LinkedIn”](#linkedin)
* Demographic metrics, such as age, gender, and location, are only returned if there is data for 100 or more people.
## YouTube
[Section titled “YouTube”](#youtube)
* Demographic metrics, such as age, gender, and location, are only returned if there is data for 100 or more people.
# Troubleshooting overview
> Start here when something is not working in ViewMetrics — a map of the most common problems and the article that fixes each one.
In ViewMetrics, you can add multiple users to your account if you’re on a Teams plan or have a custom plan that allows you to have access to our multi-user feature.
This feature is useful if you want to add your teammates to ViewMetrics, or want to invite a client to view their data/reports in a dedicated ViewMetrics workspace.
## How to add a user
[Section titled “How to add a user”](#how-to-add-a-user)
To add a new user to your ViewMetrics business profile, you will first need to navigate to the **Teams** tab in the **Settings** page:

Once your on the **Teams** page, you can invite a new user by clicking the purple **Add team member** button at the top right of the page.

WIthin the invite modal, you:
1. Enter the user’s email address
2. Select what level of access the user will have
3. **Admin** users have access to everything in ViewMetrics, including:
4. adding and removing data sources
5. adding or removing workspaces
6. adding or removing teammates
7. managing account settings
8. **Member** users have access to:
9. whatever workspaces are specified in the **workspaces** selector
10. This could be “all workspaces” or a subset of workspaces
11. Analytics pages to view data
12. Reports
13. Click the **Add** button
14. Repeat steps 1-3 for as many users as you want to invite
15. Once finished, click **Invite team members** at the bottom to send out invites to all users.
Once you click **Invite team members**, everyone will receive an email from ViewMetrics with an invitation to join your workspace.
## **Troubleshooting:**
[Section titled “Troubleshooting:”](#troubleshooting)
## The invitation is invalid
[Section titled “The invitation is invalid”](#the-invitation-is-invalid)
If the recipient of an invitation takes too long to accept the invite, the invite link will become expired and the user will no longer be able to sign up and access the shared account.
To resolve this, first, the team admin must cancel the original invitation:

Then they can go through and re-invite the user through the same **invite team member** flow.
**My teammate is not receiving the invitation email from ViewMetrics:**
There are a few reasons this could be happening:
* First, have your teammate check their spam folder. It’s possible the invite was filtered and sent to spam. Please have them move the email to their primary inbox to help prevent this for other users 😉
* If the email we send bounced for whatever reason, then we will not attempt to send another email to the same address. If you believe this happened to you, please contact support.
For all other issues, please have your admin contact support. We are more than happy to help you invite a new user to your team.
# Why do I have missing data?
> The usual causes of gaps in ViewMetrics data — provider delays, permission changes and date ranges — and how to tell which one you are hitting.
There are a couple of reasons why you might be missing data from your connected data source. Below we’ll break down the most common reasons why you might be missing data
**ViewMetrics lost access**: If you aren’t seeing any data at all, it’s possible that ViewMetrics lost access to your connected account completely. If you aren’t able to see any data, you should click the “reconnect” button on the data source page.
**The Platform’s services were down**: Sometimes when we try and pull data from a third-party platform, they might be experiencing some issues. We’ll try and show you a notification when we are aware of this issue. If this is the issue you will just need to wait until the platform’s services are back up.
**We’re missing permissions:** If you haven’t granted ViewMetrics “all permissions” to your profile, we won’t be able to pull your data. Make sure you grant ViewMetrics access to all of the pages you want to pull data from and make sure you grant permissions that will allow us to pull data. To modify your permissions, you will need to re-connect the data source or go to the platform’s website to manage approved permissions.
**Platform limitations**: Some data sources don’t give us all the data we request. For example, **Instagram** and **Twitter** do not give back follower data beyond the last 30 days, so if you try and request follower data beyond 30 days you will see an error. It’s also possible that your account hasn’t been connected to ViewMetrics long enough for us to capture data.
**API Limits**: If you request too much data too fast, the platform we pull data from might block additional requests. We try our best to cache your data so it doesn’t require multiple API calls, but sometimes limits are still hit. Try waiting 5 minutes before querying data again.
If all else fails your best bet is to disconnect the data source from ViewMetrics and re-connect it again, paying extra attention to the permissions that the data source asks you to approve. If that does not work, please reach out and someone from our support team will reach out to help.
